Vetmedin opens up the blood vessels taking blood away from the heart,
so reducing the work the heart has to do to pump blood around your dog's
body.
At the same time, Vetmedin opens up the blood vessels returning blood to the heart which reduces pressure on the heart.
Vetmedin also differs from other commonly used heart drugs by helping to the heart to pump more efficiently.
It is thought that the increase in life expectancy seen in clinical studies is a result of these effects.

You should start to see an improvement in your dog within a week. This improvement may even get better in the following weeks. Obviously severity of heart failure will vary from dog to dog and this will affect how well your dog will respond.
